Nursing: Are you All in?

Updated: Dec 14, 2019

I titled this site "The All in RN" because you have to be just that! Nursing takes heart...honestly it takes Character. You can't fake it over here. It's one of those professions that evens the playing field as far as background, education, gender, finance, even where you obtained your degree, would you agree?

The reason for this is because the real learning begins your first day on the job. You aren't just learning clinical practice, you are learning how to communicate, how to know when to ask for help, what to do and when to do it, trust instinct that you don't even have yet, and overall how to maneuver through an active bee hive without getting stung...ok too much visual, but you get my drift. What makes the difference is the people you meet along the way, the relationships you build, and the nurses you grow to love. We are all in this together...Brick by Brick, Turn by Turn, Boost by Boost lol.

Let me tell you a little about myself. My name is Kristina Way (KWay) but most know me as Nurse.Ninaluv808. Your smiley, calm, helpful hands on Nurse ready at your service...but there's more.

I personally know how hard it is to make it in this world and not loose the authenticity that is you. I grew up with humble beginnings carrying an internal hunger for more for myself, my family and my community. I was draw to healthcare early...just like some of you I thought I was going to be a "Doctor". Nothing wrong with that by all means but it just wasn't practical for me in any form or fashion, financially, their form of clinical practice and bedside manner or lack thereof (sorry not sorry lol), length of time in school, I could go on. I was first introduced to the profession of nursing in college. I joined Nursing School at Hampton University (HBCU) still unsure of my decision of how to navigate this career. As I sat there in orientation, nurse after nurse came up and spoke of his or her experience in the field...surgery, med-surg, outpatient, peri-op etc. Next were the nurses that decided to take one more step to advance in this profession, the professors, CRNA, Nurse Practitioner's, DNP's and I felt it. I felt my goals being set, I felt ALIGNMENT with my future.

True Story: I started back in NP school at NYU in 2010 and was supposed to be class of 2013. I finished a year there with a decent average but I was distracted...distracted by a toxic relationship (those foolish early 20’s), big changes in my family, the over competitiveness at NYU, and self-doubt that all this success didn’t belonged to a young Black girl like me from Elizabeth. I saw my friends matriculate and graduate while I felt like I failed. But I made some promises...I promised my mom that I wouldn’t leave this Earth without being an NP (that bought me a few years lol), and most importantly, I promised God that if he gave me a second chance...I wouldn’t let him down! Come 2016 and I was ready to cash in on those promises...since then I have taken 2 mission trips, created incredible relationships with my professors at Hunter and with other healthcare professionals, spoke to Nursing students at Rutgers every summer program, and maintained an A average. Graduating as an honor student and Nurse Practitioner is my ancestors wildest dreams! You have to be All In in this field...mind, body, and soul. Let's continue to motivate and push each other through our Nursing Journey's...Nurse.Ninaluv808
